Prestwick Country Club has been ranked among the “5 Best Kept Secret Courses in America,” but the P.B. Dye design better not be a hidden gem to your group.
Prestwick is an outstanding course, offering consistently superb conditions and a stern test of golf. Players earn their score at this links-inspired layout that rewards quality ball striking.
The back nine, in particular, is among the strongest in the area. Dye used water, waste bunkers, swales and mounding to create a test that is challenging, thought provoking, and fun all at the same time.
Many regard the par 4 14th, with a carry over water off the tee and a daunting approach to an elevated green, as the course’s signature hole. But the ninth, 16th and 18th, among others, can all lay claim to being Prestwick’s best individual challenge.
As a group, Prestwick’s par 3s are outstanding, ranging in length from 135 to 193 yards from the white tees. Three of the four – the 5th, 13th and 16th – require a carry over water and are as pretty as they are challenging.
Prestwick has more than earned the 4.5 stars it received from Golf Digest, so what are you waiting for?
